Anna Maria Friman (voice) from Gothenburg, Sweden performs with her regular ensembles, project based chamber music ensembles as well as a soloist with choirs and orchestras.

Many of her ensemble engagements include performances of different musical styles, crossing borders between early, folk, improvisation and contemporary music.

With her groups Trio Mediæval, Friman-Ambrosini-Vicens Trio and Alternative History Quartet she has performed throughout Europe, USA (32 states), Mexico, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau and Australia.

She has performed in a variety of venues: churches, cathedrals, monasteries, farms, clubs, industrial spaces, private homes, outdoor arenas and museums and has performed on the most prestigious stages in the world, including Sydney Opera House, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Wigmore Hall in London, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Vienna Konzerthaus and Carnegie Hall in New York

For 15 years she was a member of Gavin Bryars Ensemble, and has worked with composers such as Tony Banks, Anna Clyne, Peter Erskine, Michael Gordon, Hildur Guðnadottir, Sungji Hong, Tōnu Kōrvits, John Paul Jones, Anders Jormin, David Lang, Paula af Malmborg Ward, Mooby, Ivan Moody, Nico Muhly and Antony Hegarty, Caroline Shaw, Andrew Smith and Julia Wolf.

As a soloist she has collaborated with musicians, choirs and orchestras such as Göteborg Baroque, Gageego!, Musica Älvsborg, Karlsson Baroque, Helena Ek and Anna Maria Friman Duo, Salongkonserter: Ulrika Davidsson & Johan Stern & Gabrielle Bania, Anna Paradiso Laurin & Dan Laurin, Ensemble Serikon, Kersten Cottyn & Lene Langballe, Hille Perl & Sirius Viols, Philippe Pierlot & Ricercar Consort, Collegium Vocale Gent, Latvian Radio Choir, Washington National Cathedrals Girls´ choir, Hägerstens Kammarkör, Det Norske Solistkor, Uppsala Akademiska kör, Kristiansand Symfoniorkester. With the Trio Mediæval she has has recently collaborated with Caroline Shaw & Ringdown, Catalina Vicens, Christos Barbas, Avanti! Chamber Orchestra, Kamus Quartet, Arve Henriksen, Vox Clamantis, MusikFabrik, Sinikka Langeland Ensemble, Mats Eilertsen Trio, Bang on a Can All-Stars, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

In 2010 Friman completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Music at the University of York, UK where she researched the modern performance of medieval music by women. She also taught singing and coached vocal ensembles at the University of York and further through the years she has enjoyed giving vocal masterclasses and choir/ensemble workshops at different academic institutions and courses in Sweden, Europe and USA, most recently at the University of Chicago where the Trio Mediæval was engaged as Ensemble in Residence during the 25/26 academic year. Friman teaches singing and ensemble singing at the church music course Studium Musicum at St. Elisabets Folkhögskola in Gothenburg.

Friman also plays the Hardanger fiddle and writes vocal arrangements of folk- and medieval songs, published by Wessmans Musikförlag.
